DESCRIPTION:WAVE Network\, in collaboration with Viva La Vulva and Central European University (CEU)\, invites students\, community members\, and allies to an interactive workshop exploring digital behaviour\, boundaries\, and the often invisible dynamics of silencing in online spaces. \nTaking place shortly after International Women’s Day\, this workshop continues the conversation about gender equality by focusing on how digital environments shape voice\, visibility\, and participation. Everyday messages such as “Why didn’t you reply?” or “Send proof.” may appear ordinary\, yet they can carry very different meanings depending on context\, relationships\, and power dynamics. \nThrough discussion-based exercises and creative reflection\, participants will explore how technology-facilitated violence against women and girls (TFVAWG) manifests in daily digital interactions. The workshop combines analytical and arts-based approaches\, inviting participants to reflect on digital norms\, identify patterns such as surveillance or pressure\, and consider how online harm can lead to self-censorship and withdrawal from public life. \nThe session will conclude with a creative reflection exercise led by Viva La Vulva\, encouraging participants to explore the emotional and embodied dimensions of digital experiences. \nWAVE’s Contribution \nTechnology-facilitated violence against women and girls is an increasingly recognised dimension of gender-based violence across Europe. DESCRIPTION:WAVE Network\, in collaboration with The Advocates for Human Rights\, invites participants to a panel discussion examining how legal systems intended to deliver justice can instead reinforce harm for survivors of gender-based violence. \nAcross jurisdictions\, survivors often encounter justice systems that appear formally accessible but are shaped by structural inequalities\, gender stereotypes\, and limited understanding of trauma and abuse. As a result\, women seeking protection and accountability may experience victim-blaming\, institutional barriers\, economic obstacles\, or even criminalisation for actions connected to the violence they have endured. \nBringing together perspectives from Europe and the United States\, this panel will explore how these dynamics manifest across criminal\, family\, and administrative legal systems. Speakers will share experiences from their respective fields\, highlighting how processes that seem neutral or protective in theory can\, in practice\, retraumatise survivors and undermine meaningful access to justice. \nThe discussion will also focus on strategies for change. Drawing on feminist legal approaches\, advocacy efforts\, and monitoring initiatives such as court observation\, panelists will reflect on how legal systems can be held accountable and transformed to better centre survivors’ experiences and rights. \nWAVE’s Contribution\nAccess to justice is a central pillar of efforts to prevent and respond to violence against women and girls. The film exposes how a law presented as a “modernization” of Japan’s family system instead deepens the risks for those it claims to protect. Moving between Tokyo and Budapest\, the documentary highlights global failures in custody systems\, child protection mechanisms\, and violence-prevention structures – issues that resonate far beyond Japan. \nThis screening is part of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign. \nAbout the Film \nMayday Rain (Japan\, 2025\, 74’)\nDirector: Reo Tomita \nHow far can law protect? How far can it harm? \nIn May 2024\, as rain poured relentlessly over the National Diet in Tokyo\, survivors of domestic violence and child abuse stood outside in opposition to a rewritten Civil Code that introduced joint parental authority after divorce. Despite their outcry—and the warnings of lawyers\, women’s rights groups\, and advocates—the law passed. \nMayday Rain is the first professionally produced Japanese film created in close collaboration with survivors of domestic violence. It portrays the lived realities of those most affected by the reforms\, weaving together survivor testimonies\, legal insights\, and movement-building reflections. The film exposes the deep\, systemic flaws in joint custody regimes and their consequences for women and children worldwide. \nWAVE’s Contribution \nWAVE’s strategic priority on child safeguarding\, and our work to strengthen protection systems across Europe\, is deeply connected to the themes raised in the film. DESCRIPTION:From 25 November to 10 December 2025\, WAVE Network marks the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence with a Europe-wide awareness campaign highlighting the systems\, services\, and frameworks that protect survivors of violence against women and girls. \nThis year’s campaign focuses on making these structures more accessible and understandable to wider audiences\, while drawing attention to the persistent gaps that continue to limit protection and support across Europe. \nThroughout the 16 days\, WAVE will share daily content across its platforms\, including clear explainers on key frameworks such as the Istanbul Convention and the EU Directive on Violence Against Women\, insights from the upcoming WAVE Country Report 2025\, and thematic discussions on issues including technology-facilitated violence\, primary prevention\, migrant and refugee women’s experiences\, and intersectional inequalities such as forced marriage and marital captivity. \nYouth perspectives are central to this year’s campaign\, with contributions from WAVE Youth Ambassadors and findings from their work on technology-facilitated violence. \nA key message runs throughout the campaign: women’s specialist services demonstrate every day that safety and recovery are possible\, but require sustainable\, long-term funding to continue their work. \nThe campaign begins on 25 November\, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women\, and concludes on 10 December\, International Human Rights Day. \nFollow the campaign across WAVE’s platforms to stay informed\, engage with daily content\, and support advocacy for accessible\, survivor-centred services across Europe.
