WAVE advocates at the highest levels of European and international policy-making to ensure that women’s specialist services are recognised, properly funded, and protected by law. Working directly with EU institutions, the Council of Europe, and the United Nations, WAVE turns the lived realities of women and girls experiencing violence into concrete legal commitments and accountability for governments. Alongside feminist and gender equality organisations across Europe, WAVE pushes back against growing attacks on women’s rights and holds decision-makers to their obligations under the Istanbul Convention and other key laws and frameworks. Central to all of this is the voices of WAVE’s members: our advocacy is rooted in the frontline expertise of women’s organisations operating across both EU and non-EU countries, ensuring that those closest to survivors — including in countries affected by conflict, political repression, and restrictions on civil society — have a direct influence on the policies that are meant to protect them.
