Transparency & FAQs

WAVE’s mission is to enable all women, their children and girls to live free from violence by building and sustaining a strong, collaborative network of experts, practitioners, and survivors. Your donation empowers WAVE’s Emergency Fund, which directly supports over 190 women’s services in 46 countries. It keeps shelters and helplines open, sustains specialist staff, and strengthens the European women’s rights movement. Every donation helps survivors access safety and support and is managed transparently through audited annual reports.

A smaller portion is used for public relations, fundraising and administration. Further details on the use of funds can be found in our annual activity report.

Your donation creates real, measurable impact for women and girls across Europe. It ensures that survivors of violence against women can access safe housing, counselling, legal aid, and long-term support when they need it most.

Every contribution (big or small) helps to:

  • Protect lives by funding emergency shelters and crisis hotlines.
  • Empower survivors through psychological, social, and legal assistance.
  • Build resilience by supporting training and capacity-building for frontline workers.
  • Drive systemic change by pushing for stronger laws and policies that protect women, their children, and girls.

When you donate to WAVE, you help preserve essential women’s specialist services, many of which face ongoing funding cuts. Together, we are defending fundamental human rights and advancing a Europe where women and children can live free from violence.

Donations made through our online donation form go into the WAVE Emergency Fund, which supports WAVE’s work in general. This means your contribution directly reaches where it is most needed: helping women, their children, and girls through our network of services across Europe. The Emergency Fund allows us to act quickly, strengthen women’s rights, and ensure that support lands exactly where it should.

In acute emergencies or special campaigns, we provide dedicated donation options for specific projects. These are clearly marked on our website and donation form when available.

Your support helps us continue our work to end violence against women and girls and to stand by survivors across Europe.

You can easily set up a recurring donation through our online donation form or by direct bank transfer from any Euro account. Regular donations are especially valuable; they provide stability for WAVE and our network of women’s organisations, helping us plan ahead and ensure ongoing support for women, their children, and girls affected by violence.

We can also process regular transfers from foreign Euro accounts (within the SEPA area) without issue.
Please note that direct transfers from accounts outside the Euro area may involve high fees, which can sometimes exceed the donation amount. Unfortunately, we cannot process automatic recurring donations from those accounts.

If you are based outside Europe and would like to support WAVE regularly, we recommend donating online or via PayPal.

Every recurring donation strengthens WAVE’s work to end violence against women and girls and ensures that help is always available when it’s needed most.

You can donate with confidence knowing your information is safe – and that your gift directly supports WAVE’s work to help women, their children, and girls live free from violence.

No, you don’t need a credit card to support WAVE.

Every donation helps WAVE and our network support women, their children, and girls across Europe to live free from violence.

Tax deductibility applies only to donations from Austrian taxpayers. All monetary donations to WAVE from Austrian donors are tax-deductible because WAVE is officially listed as a charitable organisation (spendenbegünstigte Einrichtung) with the Austrian Ministry of Finance (BMF). This means your donation can be claimed as a special expense (Sonderausgabe) on your Austrian tax return.

The BMF maintains a public list of organisations eligible for tax-deductible donations, which includes many recognised non-profits such as WAVE.

If you have questions, you can always contact us at donations@wave-network.org

Yes, you can donate to WAVE from abroad. Donations can be made securely via PayPal or direct bank transfer.

  • Euro accounts abroad: Direct transfers from a foreign Euro account are possible, and we can also set up recurring donations from these accounts.
  • Non-Euro accounts: Direct transfers from accounts outside the Euro area are possible, but they may incur high fees that can sometimes exceed the donation amount. Unfortunately, recurring donations from such accounts cannot be processed.

Please note: tax deductibility applies only to donations from Austrian taxpayers.

If you would like to support WAVE regularly from outside Europe, we recommend using our online donation form or PayPal.

Yes. For donations made in Austria, all contributions are automatically reported to the Austrian tax office, so you do not need to submit a receipt yourself.

If you donate directly through our online donation form, you will receive a donation confirmation automatically. If you donate via another method and would like a written confirmation, we are happy to provide one upon request. Simply email us at donations@wave-network.org.

For Austrian donors, a summary of your donations from the previous year is sent in January, either by post or email, to help with tax reporting.

At WAVE, protecting your privacy is very important to us. We fully comply with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Austrian privacy laws.

When you make a donation, we process only the data necessary to complete the transaction, such as your name, address, and date of birth (required for tax purposes). Your data is never shared with third parties without your consent.

For full details on our privacy practices and your rights as a donor, please visit our Privacy Policy page.

No, donations to WAVE cannot be made fully anonymous. We need to process your name and contact details for legal, accounting, and tax purposes, especially for Austrian donors.

Rest assured, your information is handled securely in accordance with GDPR, and we never share your data with third parties without consent. If you have questions about your privacy, you can contact us at donations@wave-network.org.

Currently, WAVE cannot accept donations in kind, such as menstrual kits, clothing, or other material goods, due to strict hygiene regulations, logistics, and storage limitations. Collecting, sorting, and transporting these items would require resources that we do not have in Austria, and improper handling could reduce their usefulness or safety.

Financial donations remain the most effective way to support WAVE. They give our network of women’s organisations across Europe the flexibility to respond where the need is greatest, whether that’s emergency shelter, counselling, or survivor-centred services.

Your contribution helps us get the right help to the right people quickly and safely. We make sure every donation goes where it’s needed most so women, children, and girls can receive care they can rely on.

You can make a direct bank transfer to support WAVE using the following account details:

  • Bank: Erste Bank
  • Account Name: WAVE – Women Against Violence Europe
  • IBAN: AT43 2011 1289 2684 7600
  • BIC / BLZ: 20111

To help us reduce administrative effort, we kindly ask that single donations be at least €5.

Note on the account name:
If your transfer references “WAVE – Women Against Violence Europe” or a slightly different version of the name, don’t worry – your donation will reach us safely.

You can get in touch with WAVE anytime if you have questions about donations, our work, or other enquiries.
