In a powerful advocacy action, the Women Against Violence in Europe Network (WAVE) and our Spanish allies, including ASPACIA, joined forces to make a resounding statement on gender-based violence at the WAVE Conference. Today, we collectively addressed the Spanish government, which holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, calling for urgent action. Amid the ongoing inter-institutional negotiations on the EU Directive to combat gender-based violence, we emphasize the imperative need for this directive to be profoundly feminist and progressive, grounded in human rights, intersectionality, the visibilization of migrant women and the access to Women Specialist Services . We stress the indispensable role of feminist organizations in preventing violence and aiding survivors, and we insist that this directive must not erode women’s hard-won rights or render migrant women invisible.
As the negotiations unfold, WAVE and our partner feminist organizations in Spain stand united, vigilantly safeguarding the rights of women and girls across the European Union. We call upon the EU institutions and Member States to commit unwaveringly to gender equality and the eradication of violence against women, ensuring a safer and more equal future for all. Together, we can bring about real, meaningful change and create just and equitable societies where the impact of violence is never trivialized.
En una poderosa acción de incidencia, la Red de Mujeres Contra la Violencia en Europa (WAVE) y nuestros aliados en España, incluyendo ASPACIA, se unieron para hacer una enérgica declaración sobre la violencia de género en la Conferencia WAVE. Hoy, nos dirigimos colectivamente al gobierno español, que ostenta la Presidencia del Consejo de la Unión Europea, instando a una acción urgente. En medio de las negociaciones interinstitucionales en curso sobre la Directiva de la UE para combatir la violencia de género, enfatizamos la necesidad imperativa de que esta directiva sea profundamente feminista y progresista, basada en derechos humanos, la interseccionalidad, la visibilización de las mujeres migrantes y el acceso a servicios especializados para mujeres. Subrayamos el papel indispensable de las organizaciones feministas en la prevención de la violencia y la ayuda a las sobrevivientes, e insistimos en que esta directiva no debe erosionar los derechos conquistados con esfuerzo por las mujeres ni invisibilizar a las mujeres migrantes.
A medida que las negociaciones avanzan, WAVE y nuestras organizaciones feministas asociadas en España se mantienen unidas, vigilando celosamente los derechos de las mujeres y las niñas en toda la Unión Europea. Instamos a las instituciones de la UE y a los Estados miembros a comprometerse de manera inquebrantable con la igualdad de género y la erradicación de la violencia contra las mujeres, asegurando un futuro más seguro y equitativo para todas. Juntas, podemos lograr un cambio real y significativo y crear sociedades justas y equitativas donde el impacto de la violencia nunca sea minimizado.
